Supported Games


Restored 3D Positional Surround Sound

The following is a list of games whose 3D positional surround sound has been reported to be restored by using IndirectSound. Games are only listed if they require IndirectSound in order to hear 3D positional audio on newer versions of Windows (there are many other games whose 3D sound still works without IndirectSound).

Instructions
Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000 Report
American McGee's Alice EAX support must be emulated (dsound.ini must be used and eax1 or eax2 must be true)
Go to Options->Audio
Set "Sound Driver" to "EAX" or "EAX2"
Set "Speaker Type" based on how many speakers you have
BloodRayne Go to Options->Sound Options
Set "Acceleration" to "3D"
Descent 3 In the Launcher program click "Setup"
Go to the "Audio" tab
Select "DirectSound 3D"
Deus Ex Copy dsound.dll into the System folder
EAX 1.0 support must be emulated (dsound.ini must be used and eax1 must be true)
Your registry must not bypass IndirectSound
Go to Settings->Sound
Set "Hardware 3D Support" to "On"
Set "Dolby Surround Sound" to "Off"
"Effects Channels" determines how many concurrent 3D positional sounds are allowed
Diablo II: Lord of Destruction
F.E.A.R. Go to Options->Sound
Set "Enable HW Mixing" to "On"
Half Life (CD Version) EAX 1.0 support must be emulated (dsound.ini must be used and eax1 must be true)
Enable EAX
Knights of the Old Republic EAX 1.0 support must be emulated (dsound.ini must be used and eax1 must be true)
Go to Options->Sound->Advanced Options
Set "Force Software" to "OFF"
Enable EAX
Knights of the Old Republic 2 EAX 1.0 support must be emulated (dsound.ini must be used and eax1 must be true)
Go to Options->Sound->Advanced Options
Enable EAX
Mass Effect Both eax1 and eax2 should be false if dsound.ini is used
(Once real EAX emulation is implemented the above step should be unnecessary)
Go to Options->Settings->Sound
Set "Hardware Audio" to "Yes"
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
System Shock 2 Go to Options->Audio
Set "Hardware Acceleration" to "On"
"Audio Channels" determines how many concurrent 3D positional sounds are allowed
Thief Gold Go to Options->Audio
Set "Hardware Acceleration" to "On"
"Audio Channels" determines how many concurrent 3D positional sounds are allowed
Thief 2 Go to Options->Audio
Set "Hardware Acceleration" to "On"
"Audio Channels" determines how many concurrent 3D positional sounds are allowed

Other Bugs Fixed

The following is a list of games with other bugs that using IndirectSound has been reported to fix.

Bully Surround levels incorrect
Caesar 3 Music loops
Civilization 3 No audio during diplomacy
Fallout 3 Radio skips and stuttering
Max Payne Some sounds are missing
Silent Hill 2 Audio glitches (dsound.ini must be used and earlyStopFadeOutTime must be greater than 0)
